Biography

I'm the author of In Her Own Sweet Time: Unexpected Adventures in Finding, Love, Commitment and Motherhood, published by Basic Books on May 11th, 2009, as well as an essayist and journalist. When I'm not writing at my desk in the West Village, I'm somewhere in world on assignment—I've gone undercover with prostitutes and ravers, observed fashion trends in American malls, explored (and sometimes surfed) secret beaches, and worked on stories in India, South Africa, Italy and Argentina as well as in the backyard of Manhattan and at my favorite coffee shop, MoJo, around the corner from my home. My multi-media column, Extreme Luxury, appears on MSN Money.com (although in this recession it should be re-named Extreme Frugality) and my other writing has appeared in The New York Times, Newsweek, New York magazine, The New York Observer, Outside magazine, Salon.com, Self, Vogue, Business Week, O magazine, and my essay "The Multi-Tasking Man" appeared in What Makes a Man: 22 Writers Imagine the Future, edited by Rebecca Walker (Riverhead Books, 2004). I have appeared on ABC's Good Morning America and numerous other national TV and radio shows and spoken on panels at bookstores, hospitals and corporate events, and have delivered talks at universities. I also wrote Airplane Yoga (Riverhead Books, 2003) as a way to handle all the long flights that I take in all my travels.

I graduated with honors in English Literature from Kenyon College and attended The Graduate School of Journalism at The University of California at Berkeley. While at UC Berkeley I was the founding editor of F magazine, a post-feminist zine for which I received a fellowship from Women in Communications, Inc. I was also an assistant editor to Clay Felker, the founder of New York magazine, at The Felker Magazine Center. I've been a freelance editor and held editorial posts at numerous publications, and have been Executive Editor of Plum magazine, the first magazine devoted to first time mothers over the age of thirty-five. I've worked as a freelance book editor and ghost writer, which includes the bestselling book, The Female Brain by Louanne Brizendine (Random House, 2007) and I produce live events for authors and media brands that are filmed, broadcast, and marketed on-line.
